As a longtime champion for disaster resilience, I'm focused on advancing policy, programs, and discussions that enhance communities' abilities to spring back from disasters. I'm a structural engineer with more than 40 years' experience and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. My passion is uniting citizens, the private sector, and government in the effort to build more resilient communities.

Communities are healthy, vibrant, and sustainable when they are well governed and growing by driving economic development while also caring for their vulnerable populations and protecting their cultural heritage. Success, in part, depends on a healthy built environment that is rooted in contemporary urban planning, sustainability, and disaster resilience.
